Completion Seminar
All PhD and MPhil candidates are expected to take part in a Completion Seminar of their research findings at the University. The Completion Seminar should present the objectives, methods, findings and significance of the candidate's thesis research and is held in the candidate's department prior to the submission of the thesis. Read Completion Seminar InDetail flyer .
80-word summary submission
Three months prior to the submission date of the thesis, the candidate is required to submit an 80-word summary of the thesis argument to the School of Graduate Research. The summary activates the process of nominating potential examiners for the thesis.
Note: If more than 3 months lapses between submission of the 80-word summary and the thesis for examination, it is recommended that the candidate notify the SGR two weeks before the thesis is to be submitted to avoid delays with the examination. SGR Examinations Office can be notified by e-mail at: msgr-exams@unimelb.edu.au.
Further information regarding submitting a thesis and the format of the thesis can be found in the PhD Handbook or Master of Science Handbook. MPhil submission information will soon be available.
The Examination
The examination process, from submission of the thesis until candidates are contacted by the School of Graduate Research with a result or notification of a delay, will usually take a minimum of 4 months. While the thesis is under examination specific information pertaining to the examination cannot be disclosed. A result will be sent to the candidate once all reports have been received and considered by the Chairperson of Examiners.
Further information regarding examination of a thesis can be found in the PhD Handbook or Master of Science Handbook. MPhil examination information will soon be available.
